Serra de Sintra - A walker's paradise

Sintra-Cascais Natural Park and is considered to be an area of outstanding natural beauty offering plenty to tempt the more adventurous who value dramatic cliffs, forests and remote beaches. The more well-known places of this area, such as Praia Grande and Praia das Maçãs, absorb most of the visitors to the area resulting in fewer people elsewhere. In the last few years, Praia das Azenhas do Mar and Praia da Adraga have received a lot of attention in various travel publications consequently becoming incredibly popular in the summer months, and both beaches have wonderfully located restaurants that attract visitors all year round.

Hiking in Sintra

However, for the walker, this part of the Sintra-Cascais nature park offers miles of largely unspoilt and unexplored trails to discover. It is possible to walk the entire coast from Cabo da Roca to Praia da Magoito following the marked trail (GR 11 Caminho do Atlântico), which takes you past 12 very beautiful yet incredibly different beaches. The cliffs, bays and coves of this region are attracting more people every year. Subsequently, we hike to the region’s more remote places that offer an alternative to the more popular destinations.
