Nature Fix for Kids (walk 7)- 16.2.20
Rio Lizandro trail, Roman bridge and Waterfalls.
When: 11am 16.2.20 Domingo/ Sunday 16th February
How long: Approx: 3 hours
The walk starts at a water treatment plant! Yes, lovely!! Actually, my son found it very interesting. It's the only decent place to park for this walk and has sufficient room. We soon get into nature by passing a small bridge and then onto a trail once used in the past as an important link in much the same way as the N9 does today. There are sections that are clearly Roman.
The waterfall is one of Sintra's secrets and is hidden amongst some dense foliage. This is the best time of year to see this waterfall. We follow the trail into some wonderful countryside that leads to Rio Lizandro. This is the start of a stunning trail that follows the river all the way to Foz do Lizandro (22kms - perhaps for another day!).We follow the river for 2 kms to some abandoned farmhouses that are next to an ancient bridge. A great place for kids to play and to have our snacks. We will be taking the trail back on the opposite side of the river.
My favorite picture (below)from the last 'Nature Fix' at the start of this month. Beautiful colours.
