Resumo:
Este percurso irá levá-lo a uma gruta misteriosa próxima às areias douradas do Portinho da Arrábida. Uma breve subida a partir desta praia permite-lhe disfrutar de uma atmosfera muito especial. Este sistema de grutas com ligação ao mar tem formações notáveis e, surpreendentemente, um altar ainda em uso hoje em dia. Já utilizada como abrigo natural há mais de 30.000 anos por grupos humanos primitivos, possivelmente até Neandertais, numa altura em que o mar se encontrava 60 metros abaixo do nível atual, esta gruta tem sido desde então testemunha de atividade humana.
Overview:
This walk will take you to a mysterious hidden cavern close to the golden sands of Portinho da Arrábida. A short climb down allows you to soak up a very special atmosphere. It was used as a natural shelter for well over 30,000 years ago by early human communities, possibly even by Neanderthals, at a time when the sea lay 60 metres below the present level. This cave has witnessed human activity ever since. The cave system here has remarkable formations and, quite surprisingly, an altar of worship that is still actively in use. There is access to the sea from the cave.

Siga o trilho envolto em vegetação que sai do local de estacionamento sugerido em direção ao mar. O trilho oferece uma agradável alternativa à estrada, passando por uma antiga azenha e dando acesso à linda Praia de Alpertuche – um ótimo local para um banho de mar ou para uma breve pausa. O percurso tem quase 5 km e inclui uma visita à misteriosa gruta da Lapa de Santa Margarida. Continuando para leste, o trilho segue na direção de um pequeno forte que alberga o Museu Oceanográfico. O caminho leva-nos até à praia do Portinho da Arrábida, que foi eleita uma das sete maravilhas naturais de Portugal, e é sem dúvida uma das mais bonitas praias do país.
Short walk:
There is a shaded path departing from the suggested parking down to the sea, providing a pleasant alternative to the road. It passes an old watermill and gives you access to a beautiful cove called Praia de Alpertuche, a great place for a swim or a rest. The walk is just under 5 km and includes a section leading to a mysterious cave, the Lapa da Santa Margarida. Continuing east, takes you towards a small fort containing the Oceanographic Museum (Museu Oceanográfico). The road leads to Portinho do Arrábida, which was elected – one of Portugal’s seven natural wonders and is clearly one of the finest beaches in the country.
