Nature fix for Kids (walk 3)

Waterfalls / Cascata de Anços

When: 11am 15.12.19

Price: 10 euros

How long: Approx: 2 hours

Trail: Cascata de Anços, Montelavar, Sintra

Description: The magical waterfalls near the town of Anços in the northeast of the Serra de Sintra National Park plunge delightfully over cliffs into the lush gorge of the Rio Mourão. There are very few waterfalls in the Lisbon region and this particular one is a stunning example of nature at its best – a welcome surprise when so close to a major capital city.

The waterfalls are a short walk along a tree lined path that leads down into the valley from where you can park your car. At the bottom of the path you’ll see the ruins of a watermill, and the path down to the river here leads to the lower falls. Continue past the mill to reach the main falls, where a little scrambling over rocks will take you right to the pool at the bottom. The “bridge” that crosses the stream is more solid than it looks and provides access to the waterfalls from the other side.
